Hi, I'm Sophie Count.

Junior UX Designer
Social and Cultural Psychology (MSc)
Sociology (BSc)

I have always had a passion for the examination of human behaviour, as my choice of study illustrates. Driven by compassion and a dedication to human rights, I first pursued a career in the third sector. However, following a move into a more digital and user-facing role and discovering a true passion, I decided to retrain in UX Design. And what a journey it's been so far!

I am excited and curious to explore the impact I can have for everyday people via UX research and design implementation.

My design and research skills

User Research

I pride myself on my communication skills. For me, conducting surveys and interviews are one of the most enjoyable, yet integral, parts of the entire UX journey.

Wireframing

From sketching to starting the design process on Figma, I love bringing ideas and solutions into reality by getting them down on paper… or screen.

Prototyping

What’s more useful to a client or colleague than being able to show them how a product will behave in real life? I find joy in building prototypes that document an entire user flow.

Usability Testing

Design iterations are nothing without user insight. I never fail to underestimate the importance of involving the user at every stage of the process.

UX Writing

To date my career has revolved around copywriting and editing. I relish every opportunity to contribute impactful and useful content.

My process
My approach follows the double-diamond design thinking process, with all projects including stages of research, ideation, prototyping and testing.

I favour this method due to the constant possibility for innovation and user input that it affords. This process not only encourages design teams to take the proper time to research and ideate on the user’s problem, but also proritises user testing and considered iterations.

This level of exploration and commitment to the user's needs means that design is created based on usability and not ego.

What do I do other than UX?

I travel

I've been on several solo trips at different points in my life. My longest was six months, during which I managed to be in Rio during carnival, climb Machu Picchu and hitchhike in New Zealand.
More recently, I climbed an inactive volcano in Guatemala, and sailed between Panama and Colombia.

I create

Whether it's cross-stitch embellishments, home improvements, or the hand-painted assets I made for this site; I just can't help myself. Creating is where I find peace, joy and meditation.
After moving to my current house, I kicked off a project to redesign every room, now I'm done it's almost time to start again!

I listen

Music is more than a passion to me, and I'm commonly known among my friends as the queen of 'Guess the Intro'. My whole family are musical and you'll often find us around a guitar at the end of a party. Throughout the year I aim to be at as many live music events as possible, especially if they take place in a field.

Being a startup, it can be daunting to hand your brand to someone, but I was blown away by what Sophie produced. I highly recommend Sophie for any UX role you may have and I really can't wait to work with her again."
